career history/ route to Buller Jeffries
Stephen joined Buller Jeffries straight from school in 1975. He gained his professional qualifications as a legal executive and law degree whilst also engaged in practice, thus gaining practical knowledge and skills at the same time as academic knowledge. Stephen was made an Associate in 2001.
most proud professional moment/ greatest achievement/ most exciting moment
Success in the Court of Appeal in relation to the substantial reduction of damages in an upper limb disorder case.
most embarrassing professional moment
Defending a case involving a claimant who dropped a component on his foot at work on the basis of contributory negligence and arguing that no liability should attach to the employers. In being asked to produce the component at trial by the judge and having carried it only a yard or two, Stephen dropped it with a deafening “bang!”, followed by what seemed an eternity of silence!
