Insurance policy interpretation, development of insurance law particularly in connection with mesothelioma claims, legionnaires' disease, commercial product liability, fire, construction and Local Authority work, including education and social services. Derek leads the Buller Jeffries team that acts for Zurich in the EL Policy Trigger Litigation currently awaiting judgment in the Court of Appeal.

Derek came to Buller Jeffries straight from Law School in 1979 and was articled to Geoff Lewis. He was a Deputy District Judge from 1993 until 1998 and has been listed as the leading personal injury solicitor for Defendants in the Midlands for many years in Chambers Directory of UK Law Firms.

Derek played semi-professional football as a young man, but turned his hand to football management after he stopped playing.  In June 2008 he was named Midlands Combination Manager of the Year.
