COVENTRY AND WARWICKSHIRE IN BUSINESS
Buller Jeffries solicitors: 27 years in Coventry and going from strength to strength
Having earned its reputation as a leader in the litigation field, solicitors firm Buller Jeffries celebrates 27 years in Coventry. Based at Bank House, Warwick Road, Buller Jeffries has carved out a niche acting on behalf of insurance companies in public and employers’ liability claims. The firm acts for Coventry City Council in connection with liability claims and, over the years, has acted for most of the major motor manufacturers and their suppliers in Coventry and the surrounding areas.
Coventry’s manufacturing sector has changed over the course of the last 27 years and so too has Buller Jeffries, expanding into new sectors and adding to its pool of specialist lawyers. In addition to litigation, Buller Jeffries has a thriving and growing commercial property, residential conveyancing and private client department that is going from strength to strength despite the recent economic woes.
As a medium-sized firm (ten partners), Buller Jeffries’ focus has been on the owner-managed business, SME sector with a growing interest in care homes, businesses related to the motor industry and property development generally.
The shape and look of Buller Jeffries has also changed dramatically in the last three decades. The partner in charge of the Coventry office, Caroline Coates, joined the firm in 1993, becoming a partner in 1999, the first female partner in the firm’s 130 year history. She has been joined by fellow partners Collette Bourne and Denise Brosnan. Lindsey Matthews, associate and Kiran Gakhal, trainee legal executive, are part of the team who deal with the whole range of liability work on behalf of Coventry City Council. Lindsey’s areas of specialism are industrial disease and employer’s liability claims; Kiran focuses on public liability and occupier’s liability cases. Caroline’s areas of expertise include prosecutions by the Health and Safety Executive and complex fire and product liability claims.
As Caroline comments: “Buller Jeffries has changed over the years, adapting to new markets and changing times but retaining its traditional values of integrity, efficiency and working hard for our clients. We keep and grow our people working in partnership with our clients. Low turnover of staff means continuity for the client and having a lawyer that cares about your business.”
Buller Jeffries also believes that it is important to be part of the local professional community. Caroline was chairman of Coventry and Warwickshire First, the membership network of local professional and financial services firms, which gave her a great opportunity to meet and work with a large number of other local professionals. She says: “We have a pool of talent here in Coventry and Warwickshire, in the professional services sector, that we should be very proud of and whom I look forward to working with now and in the future.”
